We are taking our daughter on her first official college visit this April. As a true geocaching family does, we looked to see what we could add to our trip.... a couple new states, a new country, the Stash Plaque. Obviously, being so close to Seattle we have to make a trip to Mecca Geocaching HQ. We have read up on the tour a little bit and it looks really cool to see the nuts and bolts behind the hobby we all play. There is even a huge geocache capable of holding a bunch of trackables inside the building. Immediately our thoughts went to hosting another Super Quick Travel Bug Event before we leave to take any trackables that want to go to HQ. Also being us, we have planned a few other event to meet up with local cachers as we explore the …Read more >

To log your geocache find online, all that you are required to do is put something in that little box. It could be a simple “I found it.”… or what you are likely to se a lot: TFTC. The acronym TFTC stands for Thanks For The Cache. I know its not brain surgery but it can be confusing to new cachers the first time they see it.
This is absolutely not what you should write for a log and I’ll explain why. Think back to when you were in high school and you got your yearbook. There was always that one idiot that like to write between the pages. “I’m the first to sign your crack.” It seemed funny at the time but years later when he died in a horrific floor waxing incident and the last communication from his was that lame line – a little…Read more >
If you have been around geocaching for a while you have no doubt heard the idea of a mentor program tossed out. This discussion usually comes about after a new cacher comes on the scene and makes a few mistakes. Nowadays with more and more people being introduced to geocaching through the intro app on their smartphones this seems to come up more frequently. It’s understandable. No, it really is. Does the intro app tell you not to hide near schools? Does the intro app tell you that your log should be waterproof? Even if it does, who reads instructions on a game for the phone?
I know that when we started we made mistakes, a bunch of mistakes and we had people to talk to. We got advice in the field and at events. Eventually, we were lucky enou…Read more >
We have all seen geocaching SWAG and various personalized items. They can take many forms from handmade tags to custom pens. There is really no limit to the SWAG you can get associated with your team name. The first time we had something made with our team name on it was when we designed a stamp. That sounds impressive but really its not.
We used the same logo that our brother made before for our profile. We went online and found a site that would make us some custom stamps. I don’t remember how much it cost but I do know it was seriously cheap. Pretty sure we had a coupon. They were so cheap that we bought 10. Since we bought something they gave us a free box of business cards. Did we need business cards? Of course not but they were fre…Read more >
